LM is a 16 yr old girl attending 11th grade at a high school outside the local school district.  She has been a slow reader with poor reading comprehension since grade school.   She doesn’t like to read and gets both eyestrain and headaches while reading. She also loses her place while reading, transposes words, confuses “d’s” and “b’s”, didn’t recognize words easily, and has a terrible time spelling.  Her mom scheduled an evaluation because her academic performance was now dropping severely and the prospect of going to college was looking grim.

The school didn’t have any good remediation resources, but was willing to provide accommodations with a written recommendation by a specialist. The school thought LM might have a vision processing disorder contributing to her reading disability. After an assessment, it was determined that LM had reading difficulty due to a combination of visual and cognitive processing problems. She exhibited traits that are common in patients with Dyslexia. She was prescribed reading glasses to relieve her eyestrain and headaches. Then she entered the Reading Without Limits program which reprogrammed her visual and cognitive processing skills. Through as series of drills that reprogrammed her visual and cognitive processing she overcame her disability. In about 3.5 months she achieved huge gains in her read ability, which included a reading speed increase from 167 words per minutes to 316, and a reading comprehension jump of 70% to 90% accuracy.

Following her treatment, LM was able to concentrate better, complete assignments on time, and comprehend more while reading.  Her aspirations of going to college were now in reach.
